When reading the agenda of most conferences organised by such societies it becomes evident that little or no space is given to time-tested techniques - as a very young organisation we think it is essential that much more space is given to time-tested techniques such as abrasion arthroplasty, microfracture and other bone marrow-based methods of stimulating cartilage repair.
Our organisation was founded to funnel all existing knowledge about biologic joint reconstruction and make it availabe to the largest possible number of orthopedic and other surgeons. The Association will serve as a haven for a wide range of concepts, including cartilage cell transplantation, stem cell research, ligament repair and reconstruction, as well as osteotomies and joint replacement. Although there will be a strong emphasis on biologic and joint-preserving concepts, the Association will also welcome contributions from researchers and clinicians in the field of prosthetic joint replacement.
Mission statement
In order to sensitize orthopedic surgeons and other physicians to the possibibilities of joint-preserving surgical techniques, the Association will:
- encourage scientific work on repair mechanisms of joint structures
- establish guidelines for biologic joint repair and evaluation standards
- encourage cooperation with oher societies in the field of joint reconstruction
- encourage publication of scientific papers in international magazines
- establish a members´ web forum for an exchange of views inside the Association and with the orthopedic community in general
- maintain a close relationship with industry and research institutions
- issue an electronic news letter
- hold regular international meetings
In the final analysis, the work of the Association will only be as good as its membership. That is why we invite all interested orthopedic, trauma and general surgeons who take an interest in biologic joint reconstruction to join the Association and make their personal knowledge and experience available to their colleagues from all over the world.
